Confusing thing about this is that, when you compare yourself to others around you, you might just seem "normal".  This was the case for me.  Everyone else around me had a problem too (in my opinion) so any concerns they expressed to me were brushed off.  I had surrounded myself with drinking buddies.  Oh, we talked about cutting down on our drinking, but it was such an inherent part of our social scene that these ruminations were short-lived when the hot tub and wine beckoned.  I noticed that I seemed to need to have more and more to get that "high" though.  I think when it really hit home to me that something was wrong was when I found myself drinking in my car in the parking lot at lunch time just because a small problem at work had upset me.  I felt I just had to have that drink to calm my nerves; that nothing else would do it.  And, yes, eventually I did find myself drinking in the morning.  It was a slow, but steady, progression into the abyss.
